Jerry Lee Nickels, 80 years of age, of Beatrice, passed away Monday, October 17, 2016 at Beatrice Health and Rehabilitation in Beatrice. He was born on June 14, 1936 in Beatrice to Earl and Irma (Currier) Nickels. Jerry graduated from Beatrice High School. He married Judy Lawson on March 12, 1978 in Beatrice. Jerry was a grocery store manager for 35 years before owning and operating Nickels Highlander Laundromat for 6 years. He worked shortly for Martin Luther Homes and Good Samaritan Society. Jerry was a member of Christ Community Church, Primetimers at the church and Lake Alexandria Elders. He enjoyed woodworking, camping, yardwork, helping others, motorcycling, fishing and especially time with his family.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Judy of Beatrice; daughter, Vickie Nickels of Texas; step-sons, Steven Whitmore of Beatrice, Randall Whitmore and wife Arcadia of DeWitt, Timothy Whitmore and wife Deborah of Holden, Missouri; step-daughters, Rayetta Whitmore-Fink and husband Lyle of DeWitt, Crystal Corey and husband Doug, Karla Stansberry and husband Butch, both of Beatrice; 20 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Jerry Lee Nickels, Jr., Phillip E. Nickels; sisters, Norma Jean Gray, Dorothy Mathias; and brother, Robert Nickels.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, October 20, 2016 at Christ Community Church in Beatrice with Pastor Jack Magness officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Evergreen Home Cemetery in Beatrice. A register book will be available to sign from 9 AM to 8 PM with family greeting friends from 6 to 7 PM Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society in care of the mortuary. Harman-Wright Mortuary & Crematory in Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
