Jane A. White, 51 of Ellis, NE died Thursday, May 5, 2016 at Bryan Medical Center West in Lincoln. She was born February 1, 1965 in Beatrice. Jane graduated from Beatrice High School in 1983 and from Southeast Community College, Fairbury in 1985 with a degree in Journalism. She covered all sports in SE Nebraska and followed the athletes in high school, college and through their professional careers. Jane received the distinguished service award and was the first and only women inducted into the Nebraska Baseball Hall of Fame. She received multiple awards including a National Press Women’s Association award and a 25 year service award from MUDECAS. While sports was her main focus Jane found reward in human interest stories.
Survivors include by her aunts, Lois (Fletcher) Lampe of Beatrice, and Mary White of Beatrice; and numerous cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Roland “Unk” and Doris “Peggy” White; grandparents, Ralph and Lillian Jones and Earl and Alma White; several aunts and uncles.
Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at Centenary United Methodist Church, Beatrice with Rev. Mark Schutt officiating. Burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery in Liberty, NE. The body will lie in state at Harman-Wright Mortuary, Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and then at the church one hour preceding services. A memorial has been established in lieu of flowers to the Jane White Memorial with the mortuary in charge.
