Jacquelyn "Jackie" June (Henzel) Barnard

Jacquelyn “Jackie” June (Henzel) Barnard, 78 years of age, of rural Virginia, Nebraska passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at Beatrice Community Hospital & Health Center after a long courageous fight with breast cancer. She was born on June 26, 1936 in Beatrice to Alfred and Mildred (Zink) Henzel. Jackie graduated from Virginia High School in 1954 and attended the Lincoln School of Commerce. She worked several years as a proof reader at the Beatrice Daily Sun. Jackie married Duane Barnard on November 28, 1958 in Beatrice and moved to their farm near Virginia where they farmed and raised cattle their entire lives. She drove a school bus for Lewiston Schools for 37 years. Jackie enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and having the grandchildren spend time on the farm. She loved visiting her daughter in Florida, especially Key West, going to the grandkids activities, driving horses and wagons with her friends and neighbors, going to Amish sales and auctions, raising chickens, birdwatching, being involved in many county and state fairs and being a 4H leader.

Jackie is survived by 4 daughters, Kimberly Barnard of Beatrice, Tamyra Barnard (Victor Herrera) of Dania Beach, Florida, Stacey Dorn (Russell) of Firth, Amy Jorgens (Jeff) of Martell; nephew, Robby Buss of Virginia; 8 grandchildren, Matthew Meints (Kate), Jessica and Laura Herrera, Jerrod, Halley, Kellen and Jacob Dorn, Kaili Jorgens; 1 great granddaughter, Ava Meints; sister, Sharon Mencl (Jim) of Virginia; brother-in-law, Richard Rhoades of Lincoln; 2 sisters-in-law, Lois Pohlman (Ivan) of Beatrice, Marilyn “Mert” Buss (Allen) of Wymore; and nieces and nephews, Jill, Jennifer, Robyn, Courtney, Masyn, Ty, Jeff, David, Mark, Marcie, Patty, Steve, Diane, Danny, Darcie and Dee.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Duane; sister, Marilyn Rhoades; brother-in-law, Dean Goes; parents-in-law, Donald and Viola (Hill) Barnard; and niece, Janine Nuss.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, March 30, 2015 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice with Chaplain Sharon Schuster officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Home Cemetery in Beatrice. Visitation will be held from noon to 8 PM Saturday and Sunday with family greeting friends from 6 to 8 PM Sunday, March 29, 2015 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, UNMC Massage Program and the Virginia American Legion in care of the mortuary. Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
