Frank Roland “Jr.”  Thimm, 96 years of age, of Beatrice passed away Saturday, August 19, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society in Beatrice. He was born August 29, 1920 at Beatrice to Frank and Emily (VonSteen) Thimm. Jr. graduated from Beatrice High School in 1938 where he was a drum major in the band. He served his country in the United States Army during WWII in the South Pacific, 6th Combat Engineer Battalion, 6th Infantry Division before graduating with an Associate’s degree in Agriculture from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Jr. attended the School of Auctioneering in Mason City, Iowa. He owned Thimm Real Estate and was a co-owner of the Beatrice 77 Livestock Company from 1966 to 1996. Jr. married Sara Hohbein on November 3, 1993 in Beatrice. In the past, he taught Veteran’s Agricultural School in Pickrell and worked at KWBE giving the farm report. Jr. was a past board member at Beatrice Community Hospital, and a member of the Beatrice Mennonite Church where he taught Sunday School, and a 71 year member of the Geddes-Thober VFW Club Post 1077 and the Bitting-Norman Post 27 of the American Legion. He enjoyed running his bulldozers, anything with trains, auctioneering for over 30 years at the Mennonite Central Committee Relief Sale in Aurora, and especially watching his children and grandchildren in all their activities. Jr. is survived by his wife, Sara (Hohbein) Thimm; his children, daughter, Audrey Cassel and husband William of Lincoln and their children, John B. Cassel and wife Sarah Mongeau of Champaign, Illinois, Christina Cassel of Lincoln; son, Joseph Thimm and wife Debra of Beatrice and their children, Michelle Toney and husband Austin of Omaha, Ashley Thimm of Omaha, Jarred Thimm of Beatrice; daughter, Miriam “Mimi” Kelle and husband Arlan of Beatrice and their children Miranda Kelle and friend Curtis Meints and their child, Everly Jane Meints, Spencer Kelle and wife Nicole of Lincoln and their children Paige, Crawford and Emilyn; step-son, John Ebeling and wife Dawn of Diller and their children Carson & Cooper Ebeling; step-daughter, Leah Wallace and husband Jeremy of Lincoln and their son Riley Wallace. He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, David (1971), James (1985); 1st wife, Betty Thimm; brothers and sister- in law, Herb Thimm, Walt & Emmy Thimm; sisters and brothers-in-law, Doris & Ernest Wiens, Esther & Frank Reimer.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, August 25, 2017 at Beatrice Mennonite Church in Beatrice with Pastor Tim Amor officiating. Private family interment with military rites by the Nebraska Army National Guard and Bitting-Norman Post 27 of the American Legion will be in the First Mennonite Cemetery west of Beatrice. A family prayer service will be held 10:45 AM Friday at the church. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 9 PM with family greeting friends from 6 to 8 PM Thursday, August 24, 2017 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice. Memorials are suggested to the Mennonite Central Committee or the Beatrice Mennonite Church in care of the mortuary. Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
