Ellis Earl Dovel

Ellis Earl Dovel, 93, Pawnee City, NE died January 5, 2016 at the Premier Estates Care Center in Pawnee City.  He was born on a farm west of Pawnee City, on October 22, 1922 to Earl and Edna Dovel. Ellis attend grade school in the rock school west of Pawnee City Dist. #19 known as Summit and graduated from Pawnee City High School in 1939.  On April 17th 1938 Ellis was baptized by immersion by Reverend E.E. Smith and became a member of the Christian Church in Pawnee City. On June 3, 1953 Ellis and Lois Irene Beasing of Rockport, MO were united in marriage with the Reverend Raymond Thiemier officiating. A son George Ellis was born to this union.

Ellis truly loved the out-of-doors and nature.  At a very young age he took care of his own cattle and other livestock.  The entire life of Ellis was spent in Pawnee County. Ellis enjoyed raising Hereford cattle.  His love for nature is evident in viewing the many photographs that Ellis took.  Although Ellis worked at a number off the farm jobs he always considered himself a farmer and found peace in the solitude of rural life.

While Ellis was not a musician he loved music and assisted Lois with the many music projects she became involved with.  When Ellis retired from the farm and moved to Pawnee City, he became very active in his hobby, photography and enjoyed sharing his pictures with his friends and various organization with his picture programs.

Ellis managed the rural Water Dist. #1 and then the village of Pawnee City Water Dist.  He married Mary Freeman Parks on April 8, 2000. They enjoyed camping and were camp host for several years at Indian Caves State Park.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 1st wife, Lois; sister, Ruth; brother, Bryan; mother-in-law, Gladys Harris; sister-in-law, Shirley Crisler; brothers-in-law, Robert Freeman, Arnold Kalina, and Larry Day.

Survivors include his wife, Mary of Pawnee City, NE; son, George Ellis Dovel of Lincoln, NE; granddaughter, Hannah Rose Dovel and special friend Tyler Christianson of Lincoln, NE; sister, Phyllis Glatch of Washington, IA; brother, Lloyd of Mattawa, WA; step-children, Joyce Mazzulla and husband Jim of Mount Pleasant, TX, Rodger Parks of Pawnee City, NE, Janice Perdew and husband John of Adams, NE;  step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, Jonnie Meints and husband Anthony and their children, Kaitlyn and Chase, Jayme Perdew, Danyel Bures and her children, Kaylee & Kynslee, Curt Parks and friend Shannon Kaster and their children Cassidy and Aaron, Dawn Wilson and husband Dave and daughter Cortney, Orlando Ferraro III and wife Carolyn and their son Lucas, Dominika Rice and husband Kimball and their children Ethan, Brandon, Aiden and Isabella; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Glenn & Joan Freeman of Table Rock, NE, Verna Kalina of Pawnee City, NE, Bessie & Richard Gilmore of Kiron, IA, Ruthie Day of Arlington, TX, Bonnie Freeman of Carter Lake, IA, Robert Crisler of Lincoln, NE  nieces & nephew.

Memorial Services will be held 10:30 Monday, January 11, 2015 at the First United Presbyterian Church in Pawnee City, NE with Rev. Duane Westing officiating.  Burial will be in the Pawnee City Cemetery.  No visitation.  A memorial is established to the first Presbyterian Church or the First Christian Church with the mortuary in charge.
