Dennis L. Oltman, 70 years of age, of Lincoln, passed away Sunday, June 7, 2015 at The Independence House in Lincoln. He was born on January 29, 1945 in Beatrice to Alvie and Freda (Albers) Oltman. Dennis loved sprint car racing. In 2002, he was inducted into the Beatrice Speeway Hall of Fame. Dennis scored perhaps the most wins in the shortest time frame in Beatrice Speedway history. He won the 1965 Beatrice track championship. In 1967, he became the Beatrice Speedway all-time wins leader. Dennis moved in to the NMRA series and in 1971 finished third in points. Although Dennis’ racing career ended prematurely due to a racing injury, he still ranks among the best to have ever competed at the Beatrice Speedway.
Dennis is survived by a daughter, Anita Boosinger of Beatrice; 2 sons, David Oltman and wife Tammy of Beatrice, Drake Oltman and wife Sue of Lincoln; 7 grandchildren, Michael, Daniel and Jessica Boosinger, Justin and Brandon Oltman, Shane and Jake Oltman; 6 great grandchildren; brother, Allen Oltman and wife Eileen of Oketo, Kansas; and 2 nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 PM Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice with Rev. David Bigley officiating. Interment will follow in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery west of Barneston. Visitation will be held from noon to 9 PM Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice. A memorial has been established to Beatrice Speedway in care of the mortuary. Harman-Wright Mortuary & Crematory in Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
