Clair "Tom" Woodrow Philippi

Clair “Tom” Woodrow Philippi, 78 years of age, of Beatrice, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, November 28, 2015 at Beatrice Community Hospital. He was born December 10, 1936 on a farm north of Blue Springs to Woodrow Jacob and Clara Bell (Weinman) Philippi. Tom attended school at Holmesville and later earned his G.E.D. from Lincoln High School in Lincoln. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1955 and was stationed at in Germany. Tom married Beverly Carrel on January 1, 1956. Returning from the Army, he worked construction awhile and then was hired by American Stores Packaging Plant in Lincoln where he worked in refrigeration and maintenance for 23 years.  Upon the closing of American Stores, Tom was employed at Farmers Mutual Insurance in Lincoln as head of Building and Maintenance for 14 years until his retirement in 1998. He was a Partner in Philippi Investments, owning and managing real estate investment properties from 1980 until 2010. Tom was a member of the Westside Baptist Church in Beatrice and enjoyed working, tractors, gardening and his animals.

Tom is survived by his wife Beverly; 3 children, Elizabeth Ann of Lincoln, Peggy Sue of Beatrice, Thomas and special friend Toni of Lincoln; 7 grandchildren; sister, Thelma Ball and friend Wayne Anderson of Wymore; 4 brothers, Larry and wife Marti of Topeka, Kansas, Jim and wife Kathy of Tecumseh, Terry and wife Alice of Denton, Danny and wife Vicki of Beatrice; 4 sisters-in-law, Wilma Philippi of Central City, Ardyce Philippi of Beatrice, Marcia Philippi, Shirley Kadlec and husband Dale, all of Beatrice; brother-in-law, John Carrel and wife Sue of Beatrice; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents; 3 brothers, Gerald, Marvin, Robert; and 2 brothers-in-law, Ron Ball and Ron Carrel.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at West Side Baptist Church in Beatrice with Pastor Jon Palmquist officiating. Interment with military rites will follow in the Evergreen Home Cemetery at Beatrice. Visitation will be held from noon to 9 PM Monday, November 30, 2015 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice. Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice in care of the mortuary. Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
