Charles “Fred” Brophy, 73 years of age, of Beatrice, formerly of Washington DC, passed away Thursday, August 27, 2015 at Beatrice Community Hospital and Health Center in Beatrice after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Washington DC on August 2, 1942 to Edward and Edna (Taylor) Brophy. Fred retired as the general manager of the Kenneth H. Nash American Legion Post #8 in Washington DC and was a past commander of the Sons of the American Legion. He had a deep love of family and country, a passion for music, and was an avid fan of sports and American History.
Fred is survived by his wife, Adele; daughter, Sherry Hayward of Charlottesville, Virginia; 2 granddaughters, Andrea Pelt, Abigail Stohler; 3 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Edward Brophy and wife Anne of Dunkirk, Maryland, Donald Brophy of Lanham, Maryland; 2 sisters, MaryLou Perkins and husband Bill of Ewing, Kentucky, Donna Day of Hoffman Estates, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and first wife Nancy Brophy.
A Catholic Memorial Mass celebrating Fred’s life will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, September 17, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Beatrice with Fr. Robert Barnhill officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Evergreen Cemetery, Superior, Nebraska. Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
