Bernadine (Tholen) Fisser

Bernadine (Tholen) Fisser, 90 years of age, of Beatrice, passed away Sunday, September 11, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Society in Beatrice. She was born in Adams on February 13, 1926 to John and Jennie (Walters) Tholen. Bernadine was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell and confirmed at American Lutheran Church in Adams. She attended Rural School and graduated from Adams High School in 1943. Bernadine taught rural school for 2 years. She married George Fisser on May 23, 1945 in the American Lutheran Church in Adams. Bernadine was a homemaker and help-mate while she and George farmed in the Pickrell area until 1957 when the family moved to the Beatrice area and continued farming. In 1975, they moved into Beatrice. Bernadine started as a cook and kitchen manager in October of 1976 at the local YWCA (Young Women’s Christian Associating) until her retirement in May of 1992. While working at the YWCA, she enjoyed the time spent with the girls that came there. She was a former member of Christ Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell and a current member of St. John Lutheran Church in Beatrice where she previously taught Sunday school and bible school. Bernadine was an active member of the Women’s Circle in the church where she did many volunteer jobs and blanket sewing since 1958. Bernadine was also a 4-H Club Leader. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, traveling to Germany with George, visiting with friends, and family gatherings.

Bernadine is survived by a son, Dennis Fisser and wife Nancy of Beatrice; 2 daughters, Sharon Moon and husband Robert of Ashland, Connie Jurgens and husband Keith of Beatrice; 5 grandchildren, Richard Moon and wife Deanne, Ryan Fisser and Roxanne Woodside, Alex Moon, Brandy Coffin and husband Zachary, Brittany Jurgens; 6 great grandchildren, Blaine Fisser, Lauren and Brendan Moon, Brody Fisser, Brixton and Brooks Coffin; sister, Audrey Haecker and husband Leonard of Pickrell; brother-in-law, Harold Ruh of Madison; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband George on June 7, 2010; and sister, Shirley Ruh.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, September 16, 2016 at St. John Lutheran Church in Beatrice with Pastor Myron Meyer officiating. Private interment will be in the Evergreen Home Cemetery in Beatrice. Visitation will be held from 9 AM to 9 PM with family greeting friends from 6:30 to 7:30 PM Thursday, September 15, 2016 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice. Memorials are suggested to the St. John’s Community Food Pantry or BCH Hospice with Sterling and Naomi Kohrs in charge. Harman-Wright Mortuary and Crematory in Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
