Our History

Scott Funeral Home started in 1886 and was located at 304/308 Court Street.  Charles Harman joined Mr. Scott and it became the Scott-Harman Funeral Home from 1921-1925.

From 1926-1945 Scott-Harman Funeral Home became the Harman-Johnson Funeral Home.  In 1931 the funeral home moved to its present location at 623 Elk Street.  Extensive remodeling was done with additions of a chapel and covered garage for family vehicles.

Charles Harman was joined by his son John in 1946 and the name was changed to Harman Mortuary.  Mel Brolhorst joined and purchased the funeral home from them in 1974.

In 1990, Vaughn Wright, the present owner, purchased the funeral home from Mr. Brolhorst.  Many improvements were made at this time including new wall paper, wall hangings, new curtains, new carpet, repainted soffits, repainted exterior wood, a handicap accessible restroom and the chapel woodwork was stripped and refinished including the doors and pews.  Ceiling fans and side lights were also added for a more warming effect.
